Gather, harvest, and learn at one of the largest and most diverse community orchards in Haiti
The Haitian Development Network (HDN) is proud to introduce our Community Orchard program. Our program is dedicated to promoting food security and sustainable agriculture practices in Haiti by empowering local communities to grow their own fruits and vegetables.
Through the Community Orchard program, HDN works with local communities to establish orchards and gardens in areas lacking fresh produce access. Our team provides technical assistance and training to community members to help them develop the skills they need to cultivate and maintain their gardens.
The program is designed to be sustainable and self-sufficient, with community members working together to manage the orchards and gardens. The produce grown in the gardens is shared among the community members and sold at local markets, providing a source of income for the community and improving access to fresh, healthy food.
The Community Orchard program is part of HDN’s broader mission to promote economic and social development in Haiti. By providing communities with the tools and resources they need to grow their food, we are helping to reduce hunger and poverty and promote sustainable agriculture practices.
At HDN, sustainable agriculture is critical to building a more resilient and equitable future for Haiti. We are proud to be working alongside communities to establish orchards and gardens that will provide a source of food and income for years to come.
If you’d like to brush up your knowledge of local fruit tree care and more, we provide workshops throughout the year to share knowledge on pruning, grafting, and native pollinators.
If you have a group or class that you would like to sign-up for a field trip and/or tour at our Haiti orchards, visit our Growing Schools page.
