Activity report on the ere and eco-citizenship project

The following activities were carried out thanks to HDN funding

Activities carried out

  • Formation of a multidisciplinary work team, allocation of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Organization of 5 traveling exhibitions for students and their teachers in the second cycle of primary school.
  • Organization of an evaluation workshop with the participation of educational advisors from the project’s partner schools.
  • Organization of an EE workshop-exhibition on enhancing Haiti’s ecological heritage and developing a school community with good ecological, health and food practices, for school association leaders and teachers participating in the project.
  • Design, research and production of 6 educational posters on Haiti’s ecological heritage
  • Initial life cycle assessment and checklist
  • La Bulle D’ERE” special booklet highlighting the project’s activities, aimed at teachers, for a truly Haitian school.

Content and results of training activities

Training activity: Workshop to reflect on and evaluate travelling exhibitions

Contents

Organization of small group work according to a suggested framework, leading to proposals for shared ideas and dreams. The aim was to raise awareness of the importance of the relationships, interrelationships, inter-influences and interdependencies that exist between living beings on the one hand, and non-living natural elements on the other, and finally between non-living natural elements and man-made components created by human beings.

  • Universal health insurance linked to a health center
  • Practical education / eco-citizenship

Drawing up an
Eco-balance
“This represents the lessons learned from the traveling exhibitions:

  • The need to raise awareness of the value of local food resources among students, community members and local authorities in the school’s vicinity; Use of travelling exhibitions as a basic tool for introducing environmental education (EE) and eco-citizenship;
  • The need to acquire basic knowledge of nature, the living environment, resources, the ecological heritage and the functioning of ecosystems; o The need for pupils to have access from an early age to the basic knowledge that will enable them to develop a sense of belonging to the territory and to Haitian citizenship, as well as the will to take care of their country;
  • Improve reference tools to enhance the skills of educational consultants and 5e and 6e teachers on the theme of “EE and eco-citizenship” in relation to the curriculum recommended by MENFP. Recommendations made by teachers;

Identification of commitments made by teachers for the coming school year.

Commitments made by teachers in participating schools for the 2023-2024 school year

  1. Drawing up “golden rules” for class and school
  2. Pedagogical use of local tales, stories and legends c) Panel discussions/debates
  3. Integrating values education
  4. Sensory discovery of the living environment, including the creation of a map of the living environment and the identification of shared dreams.
  5. Use of tools to facilitate the planning and realization of an experimental school garden for ecological awareness (cultivation of medicinal plants).
  6. Inventory of Ayiti’s gastronomic heritage, with the participation of the school’s students.

Project objectives for 2023


Objective 1:
Help integrate eco-citizenship into the school curriculum


Objective 2:
Enhance agricultural heritage and develop a school community of good ecological, health and food practices.


Objective 3:
Train teachers and educational advisors in EE and eco-citizenship for student education:

  • Raising awareness among educators and students
  • Knowledge acquisition by educators and students
  • Developing attitudes and values to put into practice
  • Skills and competencies development
  • Active involvement of teachers in the students’ learning process 7.

Project objectives for 2024


Objective 1:
Add 5 more schools from the school associations that participated in the project in 2023.


Objective 2:
Conduct hearings with school association leaders to co-construct innovations for a community of practice.

Objective 3: Organization of educational days and training courses on the theme of participative eco-management of the local territory, risk culture and living together. Objective 4: Setting up an ecological library with interactive activities. Objective 5: Develop a community of eco-responsible nutritional practices and good hygiene habits.


Objective 6:
Create spaces for dialogue, exchange and consultation in connection with the implementation of an environmental monitoring plan associated with participative eco-management of the local area.
